The aim of the Alberta physical education program is to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. Physical education contributes to the development of life skills for the personal management of health, for the use of physical activity as a strategy for managing life challenges, and for a setting within which to practice the ability to work with others. Physical activity is vital to all aspects of normal growth and development, and the benefits are widely recognized.
At Avalon, activities come from five dimensions: games, dance, gymnastics, individual activities, and outdoor pursuits. Activities have included flag football, field hockey, table tennis, volleyball, social dance, wrestling, basketball, ice-skating, inter-lacrosse, handball, floor gymnastics, circuit training, juggling, rope jumping, badminton, aerobics, track and field, soccer, and softball.
